It's time for "Typo of the Month" (I like the sound of that. I think, however, that it's very unlikely to actually be a monthly feature)!
Whilst trawling the pages of deviantArt, I came across this wonderful typo:
INDECHIPERABLE
It occurs to me that the misspelled word here could be one of two things:
1. Inchipperable - adj. Implacably sad or indifferent; incapable of being encouraged to comport a cheerful demeanour.
2. Undechipperable - adj. Ruggedly optimistic; possessed of an impenetrable happiness (pejorative).
Both words are currently being considered for admission into the OED, which is probably why the writer was unable to pin down a definitive spelling.
Crit-for-Tat
Okay, well, when I attempt to properly critique a piece of work, it takes me bloody ages (if you've had an in-depth critique from me then I'm sure you'll know what I'm on about), so I'm making an offer here.
Here's the deal: you crit me, I crit you - with equivalent rigour.
The only thing to bear in mind is that, though I might have a go at critiquing poetry, I'm only really any good with prose.
If you feel I already owe you something then let me know.
And with that, I'll leave you with a word for the day:
Masterpi (pl of masterpiece).
And feel free to post more Typomanias if you spot a good one!
Tatty-Bye,
Simon.

I saw, darling, but do lie.
So I looked it up on the internet - and it seems that nobody else does either.
According to the "Wiktionary", the term was first made popular (and apparently coined - but I sincerely doubt that) by Ken Dodd in the 1970's. He was a fairly irrelevant English comedian who had buck-teeth, a penchant for feather dusters and got sent down for tax-fraud. Grandparents-era type comedy, I think, but maybe parents.
In addition I stumbled across an article called "Adieu, Bye-Bye, Cheerio: The ABC of Leave-TakingTerms in English Language History" by a random academic called Joachim Grzega. He places the term in the unenlightening category of "blends" and says that it first appeared in the OED in 1971 (which rather puts paid to the idea that it was coined by Ken Dodd - if you take into account how long a word has to be around before the OED will consider it part of the language. In fact, I think that does away with Dodd altogether - so much for Wiki). He doesn't say what "Tatty" means, though - fat lot of use he is.
Soaring above all of the unternet's (that was actually a typo, but a rather fortuitous one, so I'm leaving it in - especially given the theme of this journal) finest scholars in a glorious moment of idle speculation, however, I reckon "Tatty" is a contraction/corruption of "Ta-Ta" (which Joachim dates back to 1823) - but don't ask me what that means, cos I don't think Joachim has a clue either.
Anyway, I'm sorry I can't satisfy your curiosity, but if I haven't bored you to tears by now, I'd just like to say that "Naked" is one of the best damn films that I've ever seen - certainly Leigh's crowning glory (I know his nephew by the way - doesn't that make me special?), whatever the wanky critics say about it being misogynistic (whether it is or not, it doesn't make it a better or worse film, now, does it?). I thank you for gracing my page with it's name (hallelujah!).
Toodle-pip Kajout, old pal, and tatty-bye!
By the way, love the lollipop.
